Tonight, the Bruins celebrate probably the funniest and dare we say, best hockey movie ever? It’s ‘Slap Shot’ night at the Garden. The first 10,000 fans that enter will receive Hanson Brother glasses and Steve Carlson or better known as Steve Hanson will be appearing and participating in events and signing autographs during the game. Tonight’s winner of the seat upgrade will also win a ‘Slap Shot’ prize pack and fans are encouraged to wear their Charlestown Chief’s jerseys in honor of the movie.

The Holidays are coming and are you stuck wondering what to get that one person who just seems to have everything? Have you thought about buying them a 150 pound, six foot tall fiberglass moose that’s signed by members of the Bruins? If you said yes, you’re in luck! Take a stroll on over to eBay and you can take a gander at this hand painted work of art. Made for the 2008 Moose Parade (we know, you’re beside yourself for missing it this year!), this one of a kind item features signatures of past and present members of the team and has been coated to withstand the elements. Imagine placing this on your front yard as a decoration? We’re sure your neighbors would love it! Unfortunately, the moose didn’t receive any bids (shocking, huh?) and is now off the market. We can’t goof too much about the auction, all of the proceeds were going to charity, and we’re crossing our fingers that they relist the item. If they do relist and if you do buy it, call us! We want pictures with the beast!

The Celtics get another win tonight against the Detroit Pistons, very similar in fashion to the take down less than 2 weeks ago.  Boston improves to 11-2 on the season with the 98-80 win which featured Rajon Rondo in a star performance.  The bench played just as well as they did in the previous match-up and Tony Allen was excellent off the bench.  Justin Poulin and Kevin Henkin were in attendance at the Garden and bring you another in depth postgame podcap.

It’s the day we’ve all been waiting for… Dino Radja joins the Dino Radja Experience!!!

On tonight’s show, Dino reminisces about:

***Paving the way for European ballers

***Brawling with the X-Man

***And an amazing story about the hours leading up to his NBA debut.

Nick Altschuller and I also touch on Quentin Richardson, the Big Baby chicken wing story and pretty much just bask in the glory of everything Radja.

Have a listen, and as always, you can reach us at dinoradjaexperience@gmail.com

The Celtics improved to 10-2 on the season with a win over the now faltering New York Knicks 110-101.  Boston was without Kevin Garnett for a rather dubious suspension and the Knicks were without Eddy Curry for an equally dubious injury.  We’ll say it was at the very least an equal swap for the Knicks who still never really had a chance in the game, thanks to the lack of any interior defense and an aggressive Rajon Rondo finding himself at home in the lane once again with a stellar performance.  Justin Poulin and Kevin Henkin break down the game, admonish the league for it’s suspension of Garnett, and look ahead to Thursday and Friday’s games against the Pistons and T-Wolves respectively.

For those of you concerned about weaknesses in the Celtics’ recent play, have no fear. Henry Paulson is on the case and he brings buckets full of money with him to solve the problem. Because Paulson has abandoned his original plan to purchase bad investments from banks, he now has a few hundred billion extra dollars in bailout money to spend elsewhere.

Rumor has it that Paulson developed a special place in his heart for the Celtics during his undergraduate days at Dartmouth and has now allocated funds to help the men in green in their hour of need. Although the details are still murky, here are just of few of the outlined proposals from the Treasury Department that are intended to cure the recent ails of the Boston Celtics:

$5,000 Specialty Glasses for Doc Rivers

These cutting edge technology glasses will enable the coach to see all the way down to the end of his bench. There he will catch sight of Gabe Pruitt, who is in fact activated, dressed and available to play in games whenever Rajon Rondo falters and/or Eddie House fails to drain his jumpers. The fancy spectacles will also allow Doc to see the scoreboard high above the court, which frequently reflects noteworthy developments during games, such as 19-2 unimpeded runs by the opposing team. Recognition of such developments may prompt Rivers to utilize available timeouts to regroup and coach his team. The government expects a very favorable return to taxpayers on this modest investment.

 The Games

Tuesday, November 18 vs. New York Knicks

What It means: That someone will have a chance to step up. With KG suspended, one of the reserves must fill the void. Does Leon get the call? Will Doc turn back to Scal? Will Kevin McHale feel bad for the C’s and trade us Kevin Love for a game? Tonight, we find out.

Player to Watch: Wilson Chandler

Chandler is the new David Lee. Which is too say, the mere mention of his name gets Knicks fans more aroused than Donny Marshall in a Ray Allen museum. He’s averaging 14 points and five and a half rebounds a game, and that only figures to improve as his minutes increase.

Match-Up To Watch: Ray Allen vs. Jamal Crawford

Ray’s going to have to work it defensively tonight. There’s no such thing as playing off of Jamal Crawford—the dude will take a jumper from half-court if he’s got a clear view of the rim.

Fun Fact: Before losing to the Mavericks on Sunday night, the Knicks were three games over .500 for the first time since December of 2004.What do you mean,

Random Old Celtics/Kicks Box Score: November 5, 1993—Making their Celtic debuts, Dino Radja and Acie Earl combine for 30 points, but Patrick "Goomba" Ewing drop 32 all by himself and the Knicks kick off the 93-94 season with 111-108 win. Doc Rivers starts at point guard for NY and records a gentle nine points and six assists.

Look beyond the sterling 9-2 record and watch the ebb and flow of the games played and you know there’s something amiss with the Celtics.  The defense that we know and love appears to be there for the most part, as the team is near the top in defensive field goal percentage (1st at 39.6%) and points allowed (3rd at 89.7 pts/g) just like last year.  But what appears to be lacking most is the offensive punch the team had last year.  The Celtics are only scoring 93.5 pts/g compared to 102.9 pts/g thus far last year – a whopping 9 point difference.  So instead of leading the league with a whopping 14 point scoring differential last year, they have a less impressive 4 point average margin of victory.  And you were wondering why your nails are shorter this November than they were last November?

So since this is Boston and we fans are more often inconsolable than not, we ask the tough questions.  What’s up with the downturn in the offense?  Is it the bench?  Do they miss James Posey?  Did they need to go back to Rome for training camp?  You expect me to know the answers to these hypothetical questions?  Well I’ll try. . . .

After a very difficult week, where the Celtics played five games in seven days, the C’s walked away with a 4-1 record, but with several areas for concern. Jon and Justin welcomed Kelly Dwyer of Yahoo Sports’ Ball Don’t Lie blog and Kelly wasted little time before heaping praise upon the defending NBA champs. Kelly was quite impressed with the effort and heart shown by Celtics thus far in the early NBA season, something he saw as uncommon amongst defending champions in recent memory.

Jon asked Kelly about his thoughts on the Iverson trade, and he generally trusts Joe Dumars and his decision making, this one left Dwyer puzzled. Kelly also proclaimed Kevin Garnett as the most underrated player of his generation, but took small exception to calling Garnett’s manuever to being on "all fours" prior to getting into the defensive set as "The Cobra".  Apparently when Mr. Dwyer was coming up through the ranks, it was HE that was "The Cobra."  To that we extend our deepest apologies.

Into the second hour, callers to the show had plenty to say about the club’s recent struggles offensively including one voice familiar to Celtics Stuff Live listeners, former co-host Jim "JB" Metz. JB, unlike Jon and Justin, was a bit loathe to blame on the hands of Rajon Rondo, but had a great number of questions for Kevin Garnett, Eddie House, and Doc Rivers for his mis-use of (or lack thereof?) Patrick O’Bryant.

While there are many differences between Doc Rivers and Mike Woodson, there are a few similarities, at least by own thinking. Doc Rivers gives us a few thoughts on Mike Woodson and the Hawks. I add a few thoughts of my own after.

"Awww. I don’t know. When you make it to the play-offs, if they lost in 4 or 5….they’d have been a much better team the next year. Just getting in, kinds of turns your hunger on.

The fact that they didn’t break their team up….and that’s what teams usually do, they make it and then they make theses changes…uhh…I thought was huge for them. Because you have the same cast coming back. They just have grown."

Do you see Mike Woodson being in a similar position as you were with all the young talent, and this is a chance to vindicate himself?

“Well I love Mike. I just hope he doesn’t have the same year I did last year! (laughter)

Having said that. I’ve always thought Mike’s been terrific. And he’s had so many young guys and now those young guys are starting to get older and they’ve added the veterans…you know…Murray and Evans…with Bibby and Joe Johnson. They’re growing up. And now the young guys are starting to buy into what Mike’s been saying for 5 years. You can see it. You see it in their defensive urgency.

The Boston Celtics drop one at home during a tough stretch in their grueling November schedule, falling to the Nuggets 94-85.  Chauncey Billups looks comfortable with his new team already and George Karl swears they are committed to defense.  While defense was definitely a factor in the Nuggets win, the Celtics came up short (several times) at the end of the game despite heroic efforts from Ray Allen and Eddie House who teamed up to tie the game late in the 4th quarter.  Jon Duke and Kevin Henkin join Justin Poulin for another postgame podcap.

Mike, how long do you think it’ll take Rajon Rondo to be an All-Star in this league? He, in my personal opinion, is already a Top 5 point guard.

Mike: Could be awhile but I believe he is on the right track….Rajon has unique talents that ultimately will be recognized

Randolph , MA

Is there a possibility that the Celtics can get Stephon Marbury?

Mike: Hope not…..don’t need to mess with the great chemistry that already exists on this team.

Debby Dabczynski
Harrison, Maine

How and when did Doc Rivers get the nickname "Doc"?

Mike: Got it in a basketball camp when he was a teenager…..think it had something to do with a Dr J jersey.

Nick Torre
North Providence

What is your all time favorite moment in the Celtics team history and why?

Mike: There have been so many great moments I have experienced first as a fan and for the last 25 plus years as a broadcaster……but that said….the older you get the more you appreciate the here and now…..so I will put last years championship and the subsequent celebration in the city of Boston right at the top.

Jeff
Hampden, ME

How do you think the combination of Powe and Big Baby will hold up over the season as backup compliments to the starting big men? Keep up the great work, it’s always great to get to finish my day with you and you compadres.

Mike: Thanks ……they should hold up pretty well…..each is getting better by the week….the Celtics could ultimately add a PJ Brown type just to get a little more size….but Leon and Glen will do just fine in the interim.

The Celtics squared off against the Atlanta Hawks for the first time since drubbing them in Game 7 last May, and tonight’s battle came down to a final 90 minute battle between Paul Pierce and Joe Johnson.  The Truth nailed a jumpshot over Al Horford with less than a second remaining on the clock to seal the victory for the Celtics who now have the best record in the Eastern Conference at 8-1.  Kevin Garnett also played spectacularly in the 103-102 win.  Ben Royal joins Justin Poulin for another postgame podcap.
